Temporary Workaround
From Canopus_JH
This is normal behavior.
If you trim the ends of a clip then extend it the back of the project will get grow. As mentioned clip a is trimmed on the out side. Clip b is trimed on the in side. Move the clips closer (just a second or two of gap is fine, so long as the gap is shorter than the trim). Then extend clip a (or b) to fill the gap. If you over extend a then the b clip will ripple down the timeline. If you extend clip b then the b clip will grow larger. So, this is normal.
Prevention.
Since a lot of people will want to use this trim to close a gap and not change the timeline position it is best to put the timeline cursor on the spot you want to trim to. This will have a snapping effect when the trim is draged to it (provided the snap to event: cursor is set), thereby preventing overtrimming, or at least making it harder to do.
